As an important method of Computer Aided Design (CAD), parametric design can greatly improve product design efficiency, but it can't optimize the design parameters and drawings of product, which greatly affect the application of parametric design in engineering practice. Aiming at the above shortcomings, this paper proposes an optimal design method for mechanical product based on generalized parametric technology, its design thoughts and key technologies are described in detail, and a proving system is developed taking the end girder of overhead crane as a study object. The main research contents and results of this paper are as follows:Firstly, based on the research of parametric design and optimization design, an optimal design method for mechanical product based on generalized parametric technology is proposed.Secondly, parametric modeling technology is researched, principles and steps that should be followed when building master model for variant design are summarized.Thirdly, parametric drawing technology is researched, steps to draw the master template of engineering drawing and methods to generate information file of engineering drawing are discussed.Fourthly, parametric ideas is applied in the design and calculation process of mechanical product, a new method of parametric optimization design is proposed, the automatic generation and optimization of mechanical product design parameters is achieved.Fifthly, parametric variant design technology is researched, principles of parametric-model-driving are summarized, and rapid generating of serial product model is achieved.Sixthly, the technology of parametric optimization of engineering drawing is researched, the automatic generation of engineering drawing which conform to the state standards and enterprise standards is achieved.Seventhly, the client/server/workstation architecture is constructed, rapid optimum design for mechanical product based on local area network (LAN) is achieved.Finally, selecting SolidWorks 2010 as three-dimensional CAD software, SQL Server 2000 as database management software, Visual Basic 6.0 as programming language, taking the end girder of overhead crane as a study object, a proving system is developed, the effectiveness and applicability of this method are validated.The application of this method can improve efficiency, quality and the extent of standardization of product design, reduce the design cost and production cost of product, and bring remarkable economic benefits to enterprise.
