With the continuous development of ports construction, the requirement of port machinery design method have being also higher and higher. So design calculation methods of loading and unloading machines need to be renewed and consummated constantly. If virtual prototype technology is introduced in the port machinery design process, it can realize emulation that the running state of each mechanism under various working condition which varies according to load and the process which varies according to time. Results from the emulation are used to judge different data of actual movement. It has some reference value for the dynamic analysis and calculation of port machinery, and it also provide certain analysis basis for the dynamic changes of strength of port machinery important structure parts. What have mentioned above plays an important part in expediting the development cycle and reducing the cost.The gantry crane has a complex forms. It generally need to combine the three-dimensional modelling software and dynamics simulation software to realize the dynamics simulation. this paper simplifies appearance and structure of gantry crane geometric model, and adopt three-dimensional solid modeling software of Pro/E to establish three-dimensional models of gantry crane and import them to dynamics simulation software of ADAMS using MECH/Pro, which is Pro/E and ADAMS's special interface. Then, add loads and force on every component, and do multibody dynamics simulation on the machine model of lifting, car running and cart running under the joint starting and braking. And also do the movement and dynamics analysis according to several important structure data of the the crane car and bridge. Results from analysis show that introducing virtual prototype technology of the simulation analysis on the the design analysis of crane is a feasible design method. In a word, virtual prototype study of integrate system of gantry crane is a trial that apply advance design, analysis, emulation techniques in design of gantry crane and offers efficient tool and method to design portal crane that is economic, credible, stable and high performance.
