The small UAV(Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) is being increasingly and widely applied. The GCS(Ground Control Station), which is a very important part of the UAV system, is constantly developing. In this paper, combined with the semi-physical simulation platform for UAV, a expandable GMCS(Ground Monitor and Control System) based on Google Earth electronic map has been developed in the C++ Builder software platform for UAV with airborne camera by using secondary development technology of Google Earth and the remote control device interface technology. And it meets the needs of GCS functions which includes the display of UAV remote telemetry data, drawing air route and real-time displaying the flight path, UAV flight simulation, video surveillance, remote control and so on. On this basis, the data communication protocol between the GMCS and UAV is made to meet the requirements of this system.Firstly, the paper begins with the development of UAV and the research background of the GMCS giving a general description of scheme design of GMCS. With in-depth research of the secondary development of GIS based on Google Earth, the electronic map display and interactive environment have been created. With the hook technology and XML technology, the functions of making air route and displaying three-dimensional model dynamically have been implemented in the Google Earth view. With the research of remote control device interface technology of GCS, this paper comes up with indirect remote control method for UAV which has improved the maneuverability and comfort, and accomplishes the remote controlling of UAV.Finally, in the verification experiment of GMCS with the semi-physical simulation platform, the thesis solves the problems of serial communication between computers and the coordination among a variety of data link and improves the functions of GMCS software. And it completes the UAV flight simulation with the mathematical model of UAV.In this paper, the design of function structure of GMCS for UAV, the key technology and development methods of the function modules and the development of the software platform lays a foundation for the further development of GMCS for UAV to meet the needs of engineering application.
