Climate change has been an international research focus for years. More and more adverse weather made the intension of sustainable development become increasingly strong. China is now experiencing rapid urbanization. Both the pre-and post-urbanization problems are flooded in the society at the same time. Carbon emissions, which keeps increasing, is one of the most remarkable ones. Based on such background, changing the traditional way of urban development is very urgent. The"low carbon"value is not only widely treated as a way to reflect a country's responsibility to the whole world, but also a key element to sustainable development.This article start with the spatial structure of a low-carbon city, the analysis is hierarchically grouped into tree levels: the regional, city and community level. Through comprehensively reviewing low-carbon city spatial structure planning issues, the research framework becomes clear.First, this article discussed the origin of low-carbon city development and the relationship between sustainable development related theory, climate change, urbanization and low-carbon city. Research methodology and framework is proposed at this stage.Second, the concept of low-carbon economy and low-carbon city is defined. Related international and domestic low-carbon development research and practice are introduced. Then a case study is used to introduce the low carbon city structure planning strategies.Third, the low carbon structure issue is discussed from three levels which involves urban transport, land use, landscape architecture, housing and employment, open space as well as urban communities.At the end of this article, the author summarized conclusions from previous chapters. Besides, compared with urban spatial structure in the industrialization period, the future development trend of low-carbon spatial structure.
