The metro Ticket Vending Machine (TVM) is one of the core equipment in the Automatic Fare Collection (AFC) system. It is also a highly user-interactive vending terminal. The design of the Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) correlates directly not only with the user experience, but also the realization of the user requirement and the completion of the functional tasks. This article firstly briefed the relevant issues on HCI and HCI interface technology. Then it investigates, induces, analyzes and summarizes the technical trends and product types of the metro TVM in China, and elicits and confirms the equipment type which this article studies. Whereafter it analyzes the product features of the metro TVM, and since the realization of the HCI is HCI design, consequently the study object of TVM software/hardware HCI design is confirmed. After survey and analysis of the current TVM HCI status, it finds out the existing common problems and points to be improved in the TVM HCI design. By analyzing the reason causing the problems, it concludes that user-centered HCI design is a very effective method for solving the existing problems and giving improvement and enhancement. Furthermore it focuses on the research of the User-Centered HCI design method, and based on that, it constructs the TVM User-Centered HCI design flow. Then it conducts the user research based primarily on qualitative analysis plus quantitative analysis. Based on the user research outcome and modelized concept, it builds up the TVM HCI design model. Making use of the above research outcome and centering on the HCI research object, it explores the HCI design practice and evaluation in example of metro TVM type X. Finally in conclusion of the research, it can provide some reference experience for the HCI design of some related product in the future.
