The comprehensive evaluation of highway network planning is an important approach of the highway planning in some area and one of the most efficient key means to relax traffic contradiction. In this paper the comprehensive evaluation and relative problems are studied and discussed. Started with summarizing meaning, purpose and content of the comprehensive evaluation on the planning, then selected principles of the attributes in highway planning are explained, quantification of some attributes is discussed, and it is paid attention to the economic evaluation of the area where the economy is undeveloped or the traffic and economic demand is restrained. Based on the theory of the sustainable development, the meaning and important contents of the sustainable development of highway transportation are discussed, attributes of sustainable development of the evaluation on highway network planning are listed. Some comprehensive methods, such as AHP, grey relation method, fuzzy assessment and entropy method, are discussed. And because different evaluation methods may result in different sort orders, evenness method is adopted to increase accuracy of the comprehensive evaluation. Then the methods are applied in an engineering example to prove their feasibility and accuracy.
