Mass customization is new product mode for the change from seller's market to buyer's market and the satisfaction the individual requirement of customer. The three essential factors of mass customization are time, cost and variety. It is important for the enterprise response for individual requirement of customer quickly and actually, and the low cost and various product is a essential factor for gaining customer.Compared with module of traditional production, product design under Mass customization is a design process for product family with multi-product variety. Based on the analysis of the requirement for low-cost, various product in mass customization, this article construct a mode for product design which based on modularity component and supported by internet/intranet and mode management technology. The design process including: obtaining and analysis of requirement of customization, definition of product family and product platform, classifying and detail design of functional module, configuring for product variety and management of functional module is discussed. The process of classifying and evaluation of product family and the construction of product platform is discussed specially. Based on the products represents and mapping relations in functional domain and physical domain, a method of classifying product family is presented by comparing similarity of both functional requirements in functional domain and design parameters in physical domain. The process of classifying product family by virtue of this method is discussed too.Compatibility, independence function are characters of module. In the process of product design and manufacturing, it will short the time of product design and manufacturing, improve product quality, decrease product cost and increase the number of product variety by component modularity. According to the important action for product design and manufacturing, the new characters of module in mass customization are discussed, especial in module classifying and modular component interface design. Characters of modular component interface are presented including functional integration, standards and redundancy. The definition model by relation attribute, functional attribute, physics attribute and environment attribute is discussed. An interface definition method based on object-oriented is presented, and the process of modular component interface design is discussed.At last, based on the model of modular component design in mass customization, the method for improving the process of product design is discussed through the process of product design in enterprise A.
