Automatic mechanical transmissions (AMT) are highly technical products which adapt to the situation of China Nowadays. AMT can be accepted popularly by manufacturers, due to low cost and easiness to manufacture. Now AMT has many questions unsettled, such as the startup. Focused on the startup of AMT alteration of SC7130, the following researches have been finished:1. The properties of AMT including the properties of engine and clutch are analyzed. By the test data of JL474Q1, the external characteristic of engine is obtained, and the steady engine model is established. The properties of torque-transferring behavior and loading behavior of intermediate pressure plate are obtained by analysis of the relationship between hold-down force, disengagement force and the path of clutch. 2. The vehicle transmission model of AMT is the basis of parameters calculation. The formula of the impact and the friction work are deduced from the model of vehicle transmission .The relationship and main effect factors between the impact and the friction work are found by analysis of the starting process of vehicle.3. The startup strategy is made by the intention of drivers, impact and the friction work, including calculating the aimed engine speed, the throttle plate angel, varied rate of the throttle plate angel , the engagement speed of clutch , the aimed engagement quantity of clutch, the half-engagement point, and designing the fuzzy controllers of clutch and engine operations. The simulation of the strategy is finished by the SIMULINK toolbox of MATLAB. The result of simulation is satisfied.4. The wear rules are very important for improving the startup performance. The structure and material of clutch and startup modes of vehicle affect the wear. The wear must be identified and compensated. The compensations include the deformation of the diaphragm spring, the displacement of release bearing, half-engagement point and aimed engagement quantity of clutch. The simulation of starting modes under wear is finished. The result of simulation indicates the vehicle can be started perfectly.5. The startup experiment of AMT is completed. The result of test proves the design of test system and the starting control strategy are right.
