In the industry of mechanical design and manufacture, the design of typical-parts is widely applied. In the course of the traditional design, designers who must spend more time look up handbooks and then calculate and make model. So the load for designers is very big and the design efficiency is very low. Some development and research about the typical-parts design system based on the pro/Engineer platform are done and server key issues are studied in this dissertation, which is sponsored by the National Key Research Project of the 10th five-year-plan of china (Grant No. 2001BA201A02).A development way based on the Pro/Engineer platform and an integrated system framework based on C/S is presented through analyzing the function requirement of layout and logical model of system and integrating the development aim.Reusable software is a basic essential require in the course of the developing software. For realizing the key module reused, the Object Oriented technology and the COM technology are used. And then realize the software framework run multiply CAD platform.Traditional manual modeling is not only inefficient and easing make a mistake, but also unable automatic add the material information and precision information etc to models. For improving efficiency, a way of establish pragmatic model database is presented, then a model possessed material information etc droved by parameterization is received after have done designed. Re-development is an important way for CAD software develops. The typical-parts design system is success developed through the API interface develop technology, which realizes the functions of design, three-dimension modeling and automatic assemble. For easily learning and using, the intelligent navigation technology based assembly semantic and automatic assemble technology based reference frame are presented during the API interface re-development, which realizes the system's functions of Re-design and getting parameter and assembling parts.On the basis of the above theoretic achievement, the typical-parts design system on the Pro/Engineer 2001 is developed. Then the conclusions of this paper are drawn, and the related suggestion for the future research is put forward.
