FMS(Flexible Manufacturing System)is a typical real-time dynamic discrete event system composed of a number of computer-controlled machine,automated material handling and storage equipments. The supervisory control system of FMS(SCS-FMS) is the control centre of FMS. And the flexibility of FMS is mainly embodied by the flexibility of its supervisory control system. Therefore, SCS-FMS is the key factors to improve the flexibility of FMS and its reconfiguration. Aiming at improving the disadvantages and drawbacks of the traditional supervisory control technologies of FMS(SCT-FMS), the new SCT-FMS based on MES are brought forward. The SCS-FMS developed throught the technologies has good characteristics of openness, integration, reconfiguration and expansibility. Firstly, this paper introduces the basic concept and the development of the SCT-FMS. On the basis of analyzing the function and technology model of MES, this paper combines MES with SCT-FMS and establishs the system framework of SCS-FMS. The advantanges of SCT-FMS based on MES are also illuminated. And the resource models of FMS are established using the OOPN-UML modeling method which integrates the advantages of UML and Object-Oriented Petri Net(OOPN). Secondly, on the basis of the system framework and the resource OOPN models of FMS established before, the prototype system of SCS-FMS is implemented. The crucial techhologies for the implementation of the prototype system are studied. Finally, the implemented system is applied to the DENFORD FMS of NUAA. The effects of the application vertify the SCT-FMS based on MES advanced in this paper can shorten the development period of SCS-FMS, reduce the software development expense and improve openness,integration and reconfiguration of FMS.
