In order to convert GIS based feeder maps into one-line diagrams, the distribution network model based on graphic theory is improved. Main points, switch points, tap points and feeder teminal points and tie switch points are regarded as trunk nodes. Distribution transformers are regarded as load nodes. An adjancent table of 6 columns is defined to describe the connection of trunck nodes. Load nodes are subordinate to the corresponding feeder section. Routes are graded according to the number of nodes on them. A feeder line consists of many routes of different grades. An algorithm to determine the grades of the routes of a feeder line is presented. An algorithm to convert GIS based feeder maps into one-line diagrams is put forward. On the one-line diagram, the even routes are plotted horizontally while the odd routes are plotted vertically. Besides, the relative directions of the routes are not changed. Only one route is added into the diagram at each step in accordance with the sequence from low grades to high grades. Once an intersection or an overlap occurs, a method of horizontal or vertical extension and translation is introduced to eliminate the intersection or overlap. The one-line diagram is generated gradually according to the GIS based feeder map. A method of identifying the relative position between a node and a feeder segment is proposed. The realization of the proposed method on GIS based feeder maps is discussed. The placement of distribution transformers is investigated. On the one-line diagram, the relative position between the distribution transformer and the feeder segment is in accordance with that on GIS based feeder maps. Besides, two adjacent distribution transformers are implanted at a suitable distance. A program is developed based on VC++6.0 and MapX4.5, which is applied in the distribution automation system in Lintong county. The results of testing show that the proposed methods are feasible and that the program is satisfied.
