This paper primarily researches watt-hour monitoring system based on LonWorks fieldbus technology in laboratory. Using advanced LonWorks technology in auto meter reading system, the data in meter which is at the bottom are sent to LON net and to the upper management machine according to LonTalk communication protocol. The upper-computer finishes monitoring data by DDE programming in Visual Basic language. The system at last accomplishes monitoring the data in meter, automatic meter reading in real-time, sending the data into database directly, collecting money, querying and printing. Because the nodes in the network work alone, whether the database management machine is on, the spot node can't be affected.The automatic meter reading system designed by LonWorks technology is of the merit of short exploitation period, simple laying wire, good real-time than other automatic meter reading technology. At the same time, it makes use of advanced LonWorks technology and LonTalk protocol, so it predigests workload of developers consumedly and makes them concentrate their energy to design and develop better application objects. This saves plenty of time.The aim which the paper uses LonWorks technology is, the first, to primarily research in the rising technology fields. The second is, comparing with other traditional project, to adequately realize the merit of LonWorks and to ground for pushing the technology into the control system in the future. Practice proves that this method has rapid dynamic response and it is practical reference value for the central management and control of distribute object.This shows that in smart meter reading system, LonWorks is the most advanced, most reliable and cheapest technology based on the features of it.
