Traditionally, the simplified quasi-static method is adopted to study the stress and strain induced by earthquake for sluice. However, this method can not take into consideration the effect of unevensettlement of the ground on its upper structure. A more satisfactory method is used to study by a model that can represent both the dynamic properties of ground and the upper structure. A simulation ansaly sis can be made on the preliminary design of a spillway and scouring sluice through three-dimensional finite element modal which has been consider strictly according to the structural and geological condition.Combined with the existing problems of the national key project- Jin ping Cascade 2 Hydroelectric Power Station, this paper systematically studied the theories of sluice structures; at the same time ,static and dynamic analysis of the sluice of Jin ping Cascade 2 Hydroelectric Power Station' Sluice was studied using the Finite Element Method. The main studies were as follows.:1. The finite element method in spatial sluice calculation was researched. Regarding the whole sluice and foundation as an integral body, the static and dynamic analysis of the structure was made, and the spatial stress was transformed into plane stress according to demand and habits of the project design. At last the corresponding formulate was yielded.2. response spectrum method in spatial sluice calculation was researched.3. The structure of dam and foundation of Jin ping Cascade 2 Hydroelectric Power Station' Sluice was analyzed in terms of 3-dimentional finite element static analysis and kinetic reaction analysis by ANSYS software. Static analysis was analogued by elasticity and ideally elastic-plasticity material, while kinetic analysis was carried out by the combination of modal analysis and kinetic reaction analysis hierarchical method. By analyzing and calculating the structure and stress distribution status of foundation under time of completion operating period and earthquake condition, and the structure self-oscillation character and dynamic response under the degree horizontal seismic were gained beside; the initial determination on the kinetic strength and liquefied possibility of underlying sand layer beneath the dam foundation are obtained. Then the security and rationality of the whole structure were comprehensively evaluated.
