As a new manufacture mode, Mass customization has drawn widely attention and been regarded as the development tendency of manufacturing in the twenty-first century. Mass customization can provide the products and service fulfilling various customers' requirements while with the efficiency and cost of large scale production. Design for Mass Customization (DFMC) is the key element of Mass customization.Based upon the facts mentioned above, the thesis focuses on the theoretic system of DFMC and two central technologies: Product Data Management (PDM) and Product Configuration. In addition, the thesis presents the implementation of product configuration and Web-based PDM in Mass Customization environment. Research mainly includes:1. Present the development tendency of manufacture mode and the inevitability and manufacture features of MC manufacture mode. Starting from the basic concepts, system construction, design method and design process, conduct deep research on the theory of DFMC. Furthermore, present a product design integrated architecture (PDIA) for Mass Customization, which accords with the specific situation of Chinese enterprises. Finally discuss the implementation strategies of product family planning, product information modeling and product customized design in PDIA environment.2. Lucubrate the fundamental concept of product configuration, knowledge representation and knowledge reasoning. Study the system framework and configuration process of product configuration in MC. By adopting Object-Oriented GBOM, convert configuration problem into generative CSP. Additionally, through combining it with case based reasoning, complete hybrid reasoning strategy, which separates model expression from reasoning principle and greatly improves the efficiency and generalization of product configuration.3. Present the relevant concepts of PDM, status of PDM in enterprise's informational management and function modules of PDM. Based on these, discuss the system framework, function extension and system integration in MC environment.4. A Web-based PDM system is described.
