The roughness of road surface is one of the most important indexes which describe the quality of the road, and the roughness of road surface depends on the performance of the paver. The automated control of the paver's leveling system is one of the key technologies to achieve the paver's intelligent control. And then this paper aims at the touched automated leveling system which is now widely used in China, plans to design an untouched automated leveling system based on ultrasonic sensor.This paper concentrates on researching the control strategy of the untouched automated leveling system and design the controller based on DSP. So, firstly the leveling principle of the ironer of paver and the factors that affect the roughness of pavement is presented, and then the hydraulic system and the ultrasonic sensor is analyzed in detail. On this foundation, the scheme of the automated leveling control system is established, and the control strategy is analyzed which includes: confirming on using the method of PWM proportional impulse to control the electromagnetic valve; and confirming the important technical parameter such as sensitivity, dying area, proportional pulse district and constant speed control zone and so on. With the help of MATLAB, and based on the mathematic model of each module, the paver's automated leveling system is emulated, and its correctness is verified. At the end of this paper, the design of hardware as well as software of an automated leveling digital control system based on DSP is finished.DSP as the microcomputer of the controller and the ultrasonic sensor as the sensor of the automated leveling system are presented in paper. It makes the control system more steady and convenient. This untouched automated leveling system which is designed in this paper is examined in the field, and the result proved itself to be a very system which can improve the roughness of road surface notably.
