Monolayer cable net is a new kind flexible point supported system andused widely for its fine transparence, light weight and flexible constructionetc. Now in the design and analysis of monolayer cable net, the contributionof glass is not considered. In this paper, the interaction between glass andcable net is considered. The factors which determine the loading capacity ofmonolayer cable net and the contribution of glass are studied. Referring to theschematic design of monolayer cable net for point supportd glass curtain wallof Beijing New Poly Plaza, a scale of 1:10 test model was devised and built inthe structural engineering laboratory of Tsinghua University. The process ofpretension was carried out and the loading capacity of the cable net wasresearched. The contents are as follows:1. Factors analysis on loading capacity of monolayer cable net: Restraintrelationship between glass and cable net is simulated and the calculationresults of the finite element model are compared with the correlativeexperiment and calculation result. The factors determining loading capacity ofmonolayer cable net under different restraint ability of joints are analysed andthe contribution of glass is summarized.2. Study on prestressing and loading capacity of the test model of BeijingNew Poly Plaza: The process of pretension of the test model is simulated. Thedeflection of cable net and the cable force under horizontal load at differentprestress phases and after installing the glass are measured. Then influence ofprestress and rigidity of glass is analysed.3. By comparing the analysis results by the finite element model and thetest data, the reliability of the model is verified. The case with and withoutconsideration of the glass slipping are compared when the rigidity of glass isincluded in the model. The model with restraint joint between glass and cablenet is also discussed.4. The paper also introduces the schematic design of glass curtain wall ofBeijing New Poly Plaza and discusses the deflection control of the code.All the results described above provide some references for thedevelopment of monolayer cable net for point supported technology, revisionthe code and project design.
