With the growth of small-and-medium-sized cities, not only in size but also in magnitude, China is paying more and more attention to these cities' land use study and land use plan. And small-and-medium-sized cities regard the implementation of a national motorway development project, the National Trunk Highway System (NTHS), as the best chance to plan urban land use and to develop city to good urban form. That land use and transportation are closely inter-linked is common wisdom among planners and the public. There has been much research on the relationship between transportation and land use. Most of researchers pay most of their attention on million cities, and study on macro scale.Motorways improve transportation where interchanges of motorway linked urban roads or highways with motorway. As a result, the area, which near the interchanges of motorways, changed fast and drastically, and owing to less of planning and government, produced serials of urban problems. In order to prevent urban from these problems, this study will analyze the spatial configuration of land use and land use change, and the spatial relationship between connect-way and land use.In this study, in order to analyze the relationship between connect-way, the only connexion between interchanges of motorway and urban roads and highways, and land use, three research methods will be employed, these three methods are Geographic Information Systems (GIS) methods, Literature Study and Demonstration methods.By means of analyzing the spatial configuration of land use and land use change with study area, and the spatial relationship between land use and connect-way, this study will give some recommendations to small-and-medium-sized cities, and explore how to plan urban land use and shape moderate urban form. It will be useful to urban developer, urban planner and police-maker to make decision on urban.
