| The urgency and complexity in product development force us to focus on the scientific methods in this process to meet the challenge of the economy globalization in the information age. The article gives an explicit definition of industrial design, an effective tool applied in modern enterprises, by which to realize the transformation of"Made in China"into"Created in China". This thesis mainly analyses the relation between industrial design and the manufacturing technology to provide some suggestions in the process of product development for the professionals in this field, especially for the industrial designers and engineers.This paper discusses several concept definitions related in the beginning, including the essential factors in products and the application of tools in product development.This paper analyzes the relation between industrial design and the manufacturing technology in the angle of economic profits, and introduces Concurrent Design and Design for Manufacturing, two major design methods that could shorten the development circle time and the cost, which determine the success of product development. And the thesis explains the relation of the design factor and the cost of manufacture according to the diagram, that is, the design factor is crucial to the cost and also vital for the development period and the cost.Concept on manufacture technology and aesthetic standard of today changes greatly, the thesis draws an emphasis on introducing the definition and function of the product value positioning map, which serves in analyzing how the integration of industrial design and manufacturing technology influences the product value.Moreover, the paper compares the role of industrial designers and engineers played in the process of manufacture to explain the causes of perceptual gaps between them.This thesis also introduces the crucial manufacturing technology, the sheet metal—punching, with a specific case of automobile body cover panel for the heavy trucks...
