As one of gearings in common use, Reducer has been used in every walk of life. There are different requests of the frames and characteristics for different using situations. It is difficult to realize the optimization design of the Cylindrical Gear Reducer by the traditional designing method, for in the traditional designing, the designers do specific modifications according to their old experiences and theory formulas units some designing parameters. This paper applies the Virtual Prototyping Technology to the designing of the Cylindrical Gear Reducer for solving the problems in the traditional designing, which is longer designing time, higher designing cost and lower transmission quality.Virtual Prototyping Technology is a new designing method, it is a digital designing method based on the simulated models of the products. According to Virtual Prototyping Technology, in the earlier time of the designing, the designers, users and manufactures can do modifications, characteristics testing, virtual manufactures on the simulated models of the product in the virtual environment. This is very important to the enlightenment of innovation designing, improvement of the designing quality, reducing of the designing errors and shortening of the designing time.Based on the Virtual Prototyping Technology, this paper studies the optimization designing of The Cylindrical Gear Reducer. With the advanced software in the nowadays world-Pro/E(Pro/ENGINEER), ADAMS(Automatic Dynamic Analysis Mechanical System) and ANSYS(the finite element analysis software). First, the 3D models of the Reducer is built up with the software Pro/E realizing 3D parameterized modeling, and the 3D assembly models are built up according to related assembly character, and validates the correctness of the models by dong the kinematics analysis. Then the dynamics analysis is made for calculating forces on the gears and axes, which are the boundary conditions for the FEA.
