This paper researches into the Rapid Response Manufacturing (RRM) technology that suits for workshops to meet the trends of the diversity and small-batch production of high-tech weapons and equipments. The primary contents and innovation achievements of this paper are listed below:Firstly, the production and manufacturing life-cycle model in the equipment workshop are Created, and the technology approaches to realize the workshop's fast-response manufacturing are discussed,using engineering technology methods. The functional architecture of RRM in workshop is thus constructed, and the patterns and methods for integrating the supporting functions are analyzed.Secondly, the thought of closed loop process programming is brought out, the RRM oriented function & information model of process programming are constructed. The methods that improves the speed of equipment manufacturing are presented, which include optimum method by part-equipment grouping. The algorithm for manufacturing resource configure is proposed.Thirdly, this paper summarizes the technologies that enable the Reconfigurable Manufacturing System (RMS).The modular design methods for machine tools are presented, and the re-grouping algorithms for machines and their control software are proposed. Fourthly, this paper proposes the architecture for control system of the workshop based on RRM, and constructs the dynamic model of manufacturing resources. The dynamic planning and its optimum methods are brought out, and the hierarchy control model for workshop controller and the decision model are then presented.At last, the computer aided RRMS in workshop is developed based on the achievements above.
