Synchronizer ring, an important component of automotive manual transmission, uses the friction torque generated on its conical surface to synchro-mesh the two meshing components to realize gearshift. Therefore, the material applied on the conical surface of synchronizer ring will directly affect life and performance of synchronizer. Whether the conical surface could generate a stable and long-term friction torque or not plays a critical role determining whether the synchronizer could realize a long-term synchromesh smoothly. The material applied on the conical surface of synchronizer ring available currently in our country is copper alloy. However, many tests indicate that the friction coefficient of conical surface tends to decline during the course of operation as a result of poor wearing property of copper alloy. As the friction torque is proportional to shifting force and friction coefficient, in case the friction coefficient is declining, shifting force should be increased to maintain friction torque of synchronizer ring at the same level to realize gearshift. Consequently, gearshift is no longer easy, and shifting force becomes uneven, shortening the service life of synchronizer. Moreover, with the trend of automobile towards larger loading capacity and larger torque, the strength of traditional copper alloy could no longer meet the usage requirements. Gradually, the materials of synchronizer ring for heavy-duty truck is changing from cooper alloy to alloy steel. While the friction property of alloy steel could not...
