Safety is an eternal topic in Railway Transportation. The Railway Interlocking System is the "nerve center" of Railway Transportation. The development of the Railway Signal is closely related to the Railway Transportation. Along with the increasing of the train speed and density, Signal system plays a more and more important rule in Safety assurance. However, the former Railway Interlocking System is relay interlocking based on the relay logical circuits. It is very complex and hard to maintain. Nowadays, as the development of technology in Communication and Network, the traditional concept of Railway Signal is changing and its functions are extended. It needs a solution which is safer, more reliable and more efficient to build new Railway Signal Systems and rebuild the exist systems. The solution of syncretizing Field bus technology is a perfect approach.Fieldbus technology integrate Digital Communication technology, Computer technology, Automatic Control technology, Network technology and so on. It is an all-distributed, all-digital, intelligent, bidirectional, and coadjacent communication and control system. It is a trend of Automatic Control technology. PROFIBUS is the most popular filedbus in all kinds of filedbus standard in the world, and it has the fastest Data Transfer Rate (12Mbit/s) .Using opening international standards, PROFIBUS contains three parts: PROFD3US-PA, PROFIBUS-FMS and PROFBUS-DP, in which DP is widely used all around the world especially in Europe. PROFBUS-DP is a high-speed and low-cost data bus, which is used in equipment-level control system and distributed I/O communication system. It has variable structures , reliable real-time communication ability and full functions. It is also easy to install and process redundance. All these prominent performances make it to be used in many kinds of industry automation fileds. Besides, as the arise of PROFIsafe standard, PROFIBUS is to be the only safety crisis system that meets the SIL3 safety demand according to the standard of IEC61508.This thesis is to design a separate master and slave communication system based on PROFIBUS-DP under the current laboratory condition, which meets fault-safe requirement.
