The roller chain harmonic drive, as a new type of drive, has many characteristics such as simple structure, small volume, light in weight, and so on. There are some merits compared with traditional harmonic drive, like better interchangeability, lower cost and fewer influences of temperature on performance. The requirements for material of soft gear, machining, heat treatment and process are also reduced. Therefore, it is significant in engineering to study on it.The transmission principle and characteristic are presented according to study and development of harmonic drive. Firstly, kinematics of roller chain harmonic drive is studied. On the base of traditional kinematical theory, the geometric model is established and conjugate theory is analyzed. Secondly, experiment table is designed and the performance of the system is tested. The test results prove the correctness of the theory conclusion and the feasibility of the structural design. Finally, the improved proposals are offered for the shortage in the design of prototype. The experimental references are provided for deep research and practicality of the roller chain harmonic drive. |
