Meanwhile, during the study, the author utilizes not only the architectural theory and design methodology but also the knowledge from various subjects such as sociology, economics, psychology and aesthetics. The thesis is divided into six chapters: Chapter one is the introduction, which is mainly intended to introduce the research background, to address the research significance and define the concepts concerned and the research status quo, to elaborate related theories and researches, and to clarify the methodology and procedure.Chapter two summarizes and compares the residential state and apartment characteristics of the universities at home and abroad. It presents an elementary understanding of the inadequacy of university students' apartments in our country. In chapter three, with the investigation and analysis of different cases of university students' residential state, more problems are found which exist in reality among university students' apartments and need to be solved.Chapter four is an analysis of the essential elements of university students' apartments, including the understanding of university students' physiological and psychological characteristics, the analysis of their behavioral models, and the realization of university students' physiological and psychological demands.Chapter five is intended to further analyze the space of university students' apartments, and to explore the functional composition, the way to arrange the space of residential units, the spatial measure, the physical environment, and the furniture facilities of university students' apartments which are suitable for students' behavioral models. In this chapter, the related designing outline and mode of thinking are put forward as well. The last chapter is the conclusion of the present thesis that figures out the principles of the university students' apartment design: the flexible design principle, the identified design principle, the humanism design principle, the diversified design principle and the intelligent design principle.
