According to the properties of microwave radiation, this paper proposes a new method to detect the pollution on insulators by microwave radiometer. The central research is the complex dielectric constant of contaminants,we evaluate real parts and imaginary parts of dielectric constants and as a function of salinity and water content by experimental measurement, establish the three-layer media model (air-layer, contaminant-layer and insulator-layer), analyze some factors when detecting the pollution on insulators by microwave radiometer and give the corresponding solution. The level of pollution is constructed though establishing the corresponding to brightness temperature difference. The theoretic model of brightness temperature under sunshine is given, the theoretical antenna model is constructed and have the test research though experimental measurement. The principle of the properties of radiation is introduced, and detailed processes of the method and results are given to be true and effective through measurement results.
