During the operation of the power system, power loss caused by flashover accidentdamages the healthful and rapid development of the national economy directly orindirectly. The insulator contamination detection method and related technology researchboth have important significances in many aspects, such as the judgment of insulatorcontamination level, guiding power system security inspection, preventing theoccurrence of flashover accident and so on. The detection method of contaminationinsulator radiation characteristics is mainly studied in the paper with the dual-channelradiometer by the theory of component emissivity. The insulator contamination containsdifferent salt and ash, which radiation characteristics is different in the microwave band.By distinguishing contaminated insulator radiation energy differences, we can quicklyand accurately determine the contamination level of the state of the insulator. The model of three medium of contamination insulators was improved based on theexisting theory of insulator contamination detection. The theory of componentsemissivity was introduced to analysis the relationship between various factors and thecontamination emissivity which results was different under different measurement. Thestructural feature of radiometer antenna temperature was studied in detail, giving antennatemperature matrix equation of apparent increment of emissivity that contains multiplescattering and reflection, which is conducive to the physical process inversion ofcomponent temperature. Depending on the application needs of the actual measurements, the structure scheme of dual-channel radiometer was proposed in this paper. This paperdesigned the dual-polarized channel, the operating frequency, the antenna parameters andother related technical specifications of dual-channel radiometer, and it tested on variousperformance indicators of developed dual-channel radiometer, and formulated aninsulator contamination method by using the radiometer. The microwave radiationcharacteristics of composite insulators of High-voltage transmission lines under artificialcontamination conditions were measured in experiment with the dual-channel radiometer. The relationship between the microwave radiation characteristics of contaminationinsulator with atmospheric temperature as well as relative humidity is analyzed. The useof dual-channel radiometer can more accurately and comfortably detect the radiationcharacteristics of insulator contamination.
