Manufacturing execution system (MES), as the connecting bridge between Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and workshop control system, is playing more and more important role in the manufacturing enterprises. The R&D organizations on MES have developed many mature MES modules and there are some legacy systems in the manufacturing enterprises. If we set up a framework of MES integrated with legacy systems, make use of these resources, the developing efficiency of MES will be high and the expenses will be put down.Based on the analysis of the history of MES, the paper first describes all the knowledge relate to MES and sums up the actuality and tendency of the integration and R&D in MES in domestic and international. Secondly, after discussing on the framework theory of MES and some representative framework models of MES, this paper puts forward its own framework model of MES which will be developed mostly in Client/Server (C/S) and some of it in Browser/Server (B/S). Thirdly, aiming at solving the problem that the models of MES, for example legacy system and newly developed system, could not be integrated availably at present, the eXtensible Markup Language (XML) which is used to exchange isomerous data of different MES models has been discussed, and also the integration technology has been amply researched such as dynamic link library integration, components integration and so on. Finally, the prototype framewok system of MES is developed. Besides, by the integration of the equipment management system to the prototype framewok system of MES, the actual applying effect of this MES framework system has been showed.
