There is a advanced requirement to improve the Integrative, automatic extent of production organization as the development and application of CAD/CAM technology reach a certain level. We know, design is a repeated optimization proceed for improvement and solution, so the designed system should adapt dynamic modification. In fact, the work of design always is derivative, especially hope system can have a function to provide variable parameters. Traditional method of geometry model is not of benefit to creative design, which can not modify the designed model conveniently. We must develop a new supported system to instead of present entity model, which provide integrated and multilayer production information for CAD/CAM system. The information can be accepted by design, analysis and manufacture in the condition without man-made intervention, also can be transformed automatically between each of application systems to integrate CAD/CAM, so characteristic technology emerge.Using model technology of characteristic, define geometry solid of manufacture directly which complete production's definition or design by establish the base element's characteristic model after pre-define characters instance in characteristic library. It can abstract the required information from production model directly for application systems of CAD. Characteristic design can realize accurate description for production characters, simplify geometry rules of manufacture, and capture designer's thinking. So, characteristic-oriented design technology is a last technology having a light future, which realize the integration of CAD/CAPP/CAM.In this paper, through the emphasis on the character definition of glider ship model, base on the software platform of AutoCAD, apply the development tool of VBA, develop a suite design software for glider ship model, realize the quick generation of solid model, the main content include :describe the research background, purpose and significance, illustrate the characteristic design method of ship.1. introduce the character of glider ship model line and the characteristic parameters of glider ship.2. research the design method of mathematic model line, introduce the main application mathematic methods during the constructional process of this system, especially the longitudinal function which is used frequently in the ship design.3. describe the development language of AutoLISP, VBA and AutoCAD detailedly, and the realization principle of secondary development.4. the system software architecture and function realization.
