Plant Landscape Research In Nanjing Temple Garden

Plant landscape plays an important role in modern gardens, and it is also the inscape of space construction in temple gardens.The plant landscape in temple garden has own characteristic in space construction and idea of space collocation of plant landscape. It has accumulated a profound culture of the religion and traditional garden content.10 temple courtyards and 10 temple gardens were choosed as the researching object in the Nanjing temples. Using the community methods, paper analysed the current plant disposition status of these temple courtyards and gardens. Community analysis, including the community species composition, quantitative features, species diversity and similarity coefficient etc, it gave an evaluation of the characteristics of the plant community and rationality about the communities of trees, shrubs and density of trees, evergreen shrubs, deciduous trees in the quantity and type. By the analysis, the paper sumed up the characteristics of current status of Nanjing temple gardens' plant arrangement and gives some suggestions on plant landscape improvement.Basing on the community study, the paper focused on the temple "Jungle" and temples "garden" of the two plant landscape types, also analysed on the construction of temples, the temple path, temple water, rocks and other elements of the garden landscape spatial composition. Some basic idea and technique of plant construction and space construction of plant landscape in Nanjing temple garden had been dissertated.By the research of the community and the space constitution, Some suggestions to the construction of Nanjing temple gardens were summed up as follows: 1. Paying more attention to the use of native trees; 2. Protecting the diversity of plants; 3. Enhancing the protection of old trees and discovering their cultural contents; 4. Establishing a reasonable artificial community by community theory, which has a good arrangement of the evergreen and deciduous trees; 5. Paying attention to plants' regeneration succession.and recovering the regional plant landscape of the tmmple gardens.
