The handling stability is one of the most important performances of vehicle. It caninfluence not only the vehicle's handling convenience, but also the safety of a vehicle at ahigh speed, so it is called "the lifeline of the vehicle at high speed". It is laid more and moreemphasis gradually. The traditional research method can not match the modern requirementof vehicles' research and development, So Virtual Prototyping Technology has been appliedin each field as a new industrial technology. This paper is mainly about the research ofvehicle handling stability based on ADAMS.This paper introduces the concept, evaluation index, evaluation method and the presentstatus of vehicle handling stability in detail. Then the key modules and the abstract foundationof ADAMS are introduced, which will be used in the following chapters. These theories arethe base of the subsequent model building and simulation analysis. At first the double-wishbone front suspension and macpherson front suspension model isbuilt in the module of ADAMS/Car in the paper, and the parallel travel simulation of frontsuspension is performed. Then the front wheel alignment parameters are optimized by usingADAMS/Insight module. Through the webpage of ADAMS/Insight the data of kingpininclination, caster, camper and the toe angle are optimized. Then the proper suspension ischosen by comparing the simulation results.Based on the front suspension parameters optimized, the full vehicle assembly is built, including front suspension, rear suspension, steering system, stabilizer bar, engine, frontwheel, rear wheel and body subsystems. Several typical handling stability simulations arecarried on. Then the results of simulation before and after the optimization are compared. Also several main factors which may affect on handling stability are discussed in order tostudy the rule of vehicle parameters affecting on transient response, including mass gravitycenter height, the location of center of mass, front suspension stiffness, the load and tirecomering stiffness.
