With the development of distribution automation system, higher demand is put forward in dealing with the monitoring and the recovery processing of distribution network. Feeder Terminal Unit is the fundamental control unit of Feeder Automation, it play an important role in the improving of quality and reliability of distribution network.In this paper, Feed Terminal Unit (FTU)'s function will be introduced first. Then FTU, including measuring, controlling, protecting, communication and specially the remote update function. Due to these FTU's functions and recent hardware platform, a new software framework was on the table. It's totally base on the micro embedded operation system named DSP/BIOS, which only used in Ti DSP products. All functions were designed in form of several tasks which has different PRI to meet the requisition for strong real-time character of the power system. This kind of software framework could make the system update earlier and raises the flexibility of the software system greatly. The main tasks include the follow parts: data acquiring, data processing, protection, remote update and wireless communication. The remote update task is respond of that removing and downloading new software far from the device location. Wireless communication included the UDP and PPP protocol which are the key element for GPRS.
