Torsional vibration of automotive power transmission system and its noises which are mainly caused by the irregular periodical inspiriting of a engine are two important aspects which affect the performance of vehicles. With the development of our society, peoples eagerly want that vehicles should become more and more comfortable, while the conventional torsional damper used in the clutch can hardly meet this demand. Thus born Dual Mass Flywheel. This thesis presented the mechanism of Dual Mass Flywheel and the features of Dual Mass Flywheel with different structures of torsional damper, besides,it presented the parameter function of Arc Coil Spring spiral cord, which could be used to draw or machining this kind of spring. Based on this parameter function, by analyzing the deformation of restricted Arc Coil Spring, its torsional elastic expression was built, which provided a theoretical basis for this kind of Dual Mass Flywheel and its MSC/ADAMS simulation and analysis as followed.According to the parameter function and the elastic expression, a three-dimensional model and two kinds of MSC/ADAMS virtual prototypes were built. The former used flexible body to simulate the spring, and the latter used Torsion Spring model. Both virtual prototypes took a simulation of static elastic character and the second took an additional forced vibration analysis. The simulation of static elastic character validated the elastic expression, and the forced vibration analysis proved that using Dual Mass Flywheel could effectively improve the vibration character of the transmission system, as well as avoid the resonance in the engine start-up period by setting up an appropriate damping coefficient. Besides, the simulation and analysis results of the second virtual prototype also proved that it was an advisable quick-modeling method to simulate torsional damper with MSC/ADAMS Torsion Spring. This research work provides guidance and reference for designing and machining of Arc Coil Spring and further research on the performance of Dual Mass Flywheel with arc-long coil spring.
