Traffic control is the base of city traffic management and control. It is so important that can release the traffic pressure of the city. In recent years,many industrial research departments and companies apply the control technology of computer and automation to the traffic control system design. In this way, they improve the performance of the traffic control system greatly. They make the traffic most smooth through making use of the space and time resource more reasonably-choosing reasonable control system and control scheme according to different traffic condition to improve the capability of the road.This paper make researches on single point control mode mainly- making the phase,time period and holiday controllable. The control mode,optimization and algorithm have been researched carefully. The control system can be controlled more flexibly. The system doesn't adopt the fixed mode. Firstly,set the reasonable number of the phase and the length of the phase according to the actual situation. Secondly,divide the day into different time period. Thirdly,adopt different control scheme in different time period of a day. Thus,we combine the vehicle flow with optimal control scheme closely.On the one hand,we design the hardware by adopting the ARM9 (Samsung) as the core chip. Because it has stable performance and supports several kinds of buses,There are colorized LCD that can give our clients good graphic user interface and make the operation more easier; X1228 that provides clock; E2PROM that store the important datum in static way; MAX2323 that provides serial port and DM9000 that provides ethernet port. Linux has the stable and safe capabilities and supports TCP/IP and has been applied to our system. I design the GUI based on the platform of miniGUI. It supports several kinds of operating system and multi-thread program. We can use it to design our user interface conveniently. On the other hand,I divide the software into two parts. One part is device driver and the other is application program. Application program is about user interface design mainly. When the control system is finished it can support 16 phases to greatest degree and has 48 output channels and default control mode (four phases). If the default control mode doesn't fit the traffic cross our client can set different control scheme manually.
