With the development of industry and agriculture after the foundation of new China, the achievement in the electromechanical irrigation and drainage causes are remarkable. As it is recorded, there are more than 500 000 pump stations in our country, the installed power is more than 70 million kilowatt. However, two-thirds of them were built in the 50s and 60s last century, because of historical condition limits and over 30 or 40 years operation, many pump stations are in a serious aging, such as project benefit low, malfunction occurs frequently, so they need to be renewed and transformed. According to the national planning of water conservancy construction , construction of pump stations focuses on the new large pump stations for inter–basin water transfer projiects such as the North-to-South water diversion project as well as the aging pump stations'renewal and transformation in the New Era.It is well known that the large modern pump station is the main project for flood prevention ,drought control , drainage and water supply,which protects the people's life and property safety, promotes the development of national economy effectively. The study on technical economic indicator system and comprehensive evaluation for large pump stations can provide assessment standards for the construction of large pump stations and promote pump station management standardization, modernization and improvement of pump station management.Based on the available literature and a survey of the large pump stations in our country, the analysis of the large pump stations such as structure, technical demands and operating characteristics from two aspects of electromechanical equipments and buildings was made. Then a new technical and economic indicator system for large pump stations was established based on the current system. A practical and good operation model of comprehensive evaluation for large pump stations was constructed by use of theory of fuzzy comprehensive evaluation and analytical hierarchy process.Then the large pump station comprehendsive evaluation support software was designed by using Visual Basic language. The software had a friendly interactive user interface which made the evaluation easy and nicety. The practical value and precision of this study were confirmed by a typical engineering example.
