The thesis"Study, Analysis and Implementation of Passive Solar Energy Strategies in Architectural Design"was born because of the concern related to the actual architectural design approach method to the project site. The author firmly believes that good architecture is the result of a comprehensive interpretation of the site determinants at the root of the design stages. Therefore, there is no use to consider any architecture project without its surroundings influence. This ancient approach to architecture design has been put in jeopardy by the misunderstood globalization among several other reasons. Nowadays, architects feel comfortable with the idea of a massive design that complies many functions, a design capable to change a few details that can adjust from place to place, from one culture to culture. State-of-the-art communication allows lawyers to follow the case from far away; it also allows students to obtain degrees from the convenience of their homes and finally allows salesmen to sell without the existence of a shop. Nonetheless, architects should not design without first initiating a comprehensive research of the project site.According to the planet's actual conditions, buildings should not waste resources we lack of. Moreover, new buildings should be designed to improve the use of these resources creating a more comfortable environment while using the site advantages and controlling the site's problems. The thesis layout is divided into seven chapters. The introduction shows the facts that justify this research: the reason of the necessity to develop passive solar energy systems in China. The second chapter explains the positive effects of these systems in architecture and the environmental and ecological background that origin this concern. The third chapter includes solar energy basic concepts. The fourth chapter develops a comprehensive structure and analysis of the different kinds of passive solar energy and its direct relation with the building. In the fifth chapter, focal point of this thesis, a new scheme of passive solar energy analysis of existing buildings and new building passive solar energy design strategies method is exposed. The thesis'raison d'être is to provide future readers with a concrete, clear and practical tool that helps structure the site determinants analysis leading the architect to the selection of the passive solar system strategies during the design stage of an architectural project. The sixth chapter presents four architecture projects designed by the author. These projects show the passive solar energy strategies and site environment influence to the building design. The last chapter presents the passive solar energy strategies in architectural design conclusions.
