The port operation system is a special organic system, which is made up of interactive and dynamic components, such as cargos, ships, berths, yards, quay cranes and yard cranes, roads, trucks, labors and communications, in a limited port space. The efficiency of port operation system is not only the objective reflection of the management level in the port enterprises, and it impacts the port enterprises' economy benefits directly.The operation system of raw materials terminal of WISCO (Wuhan Iron and Steel Corporation) industrial port is an important part which guarantees WISCO produce smoothly. In recent years, the ore demand of WISCO industrial port increases rapidly and the utilization ratio of raw materials terminal improves progressively. With some technology-rebuilt projects putting into production day by day, the throughput of raw materials terminal increases greatly. Because of the unbalance of ore logistics organization, the operation system of raw materials terminal can not exert its function completely. In order to meet the need of production, management and development of WISCO, and solve the bottle-neck problem, some experts concerned decide to adopt simulation to simulate the status quo of the raw materials terminal of WISCO industrial port, find out its bottle-neck factors, put forward the solutions and compare the solutions mutually. The study content of this paper is the prophase work of simulation that is analyzing the characteristic of raw materials terminal operation system and establishing simulation model for carrying on simulation experimentation.The paper firstly presents the source and study meaning of it, and makes a simple introduction of the general study situation in China and other countries. Secondly, it summarizes the basic theory of the queueing system and data analyse. Thirdly, it analyses the constitution, operation flow and problems of raw materials terminal of WISCO industrial port. Fourthly, it analyses the randomicity of the raw materials terminal operation system, which includes analyzing the case of cargo arrival to port, ships arrival to port and the work efficiency of machines which worked for ships. Fifthly, it analyses the performance of the raw materials terminal of WISCO industrial port, such as berths, cranes, horizontal transport tools and the other machines. Sixthly, it puts forward some advice to optimize the operation system of raw materials terminal of WISCO industrial port. Lastly, the paper makes a brief summary of the study work of this paper, as well as the developing orientation of the study.The conclusion of this paper is provided with reference meaning and practical value for the simulation of the raw materials terminal of WISCO industrial port, by which can find out the bottle-neck factors of and put forward the countermeasures.
