Research OnThe Improvement Of Tianjin Port Bulk Ore Terminal Operation Capacity

As the integration of the international market and globalization of economic activities, international trade has been increasing greatly which promotes the continuous expansion in ports’ size. Ports serve as the best combination of domestic and international trade and the global supply chain hubs and nodes, occupying a very important position in the regional as well as the national economic development. Every single port along the coast is a economic entity, contributing to both of the commercial trade at home and abroad and economic development of the port area, and meanwhile playing a decisive role in the national modernization development and construction. Ports and its region interact each other, ports can drive regional economic development and industrial structure adjustment, but ports not only depend on the regional economy and its inherent advantages, but also has a close relationship with the port capacity. It is a significant indicator to evaluate ports’production and development level, its size is up to capacity of berth, collection and distribution, storage and handling subsystem. Port operation capacity can more directly reflect the actual cargo volume during a given period. Under the limited port resources, the study on operation capacity helps to reduce the pressure bought by the increasing cargo throughput.Tianjin port is the biggest comprehensive port in north of China and bulk ore is one of important cargo categories. Tianjin Port Bulk Ore Terminal attracts more and more shippers and vessels by its good geographical advantage and high quality port services. With the expansion of iron ore import, the operation capacity improvement is related to the terminal’s competitiveness and stable development. The paper based on existing research results at home and abroad, combining the port capacity theory, analyzes the development situation of terminal and points out its problems. The evaluation indicator system is applied to assess the external adaptability of its operation capacity, and Grey Relational Analysis to the influence degree of main factors. Finally according to problems and the quantitative analysis, countermeasures and suggestions about the terminal development plan, berth, storage and management, are put forward to improve the operation capacity of the terminal.
