As today we talk about protecting environment more and more, the idea of sustainable development becomes the guideline of protecting our beautiful earth. The green building is involved in the realm of more deep level of sustainable development in architecture. When the sustainable development became global stratagem of harmonious development between human being and nature, green building has become necessary trend of architecture development, and the assessment for green building is the core of developing green building.This paper first reviews domestic and abroad for the research status of sustainable development and green building, introduces the development of green building assessment system and expatiates the great meaning of that. Then focus on the British BREEAM, the United States LEED, GBC's GBTool and so on, comparing from version development, weighting system, assess index system, assess results and market operation and so on, and points out the common ground and limitations. In analyzing China's development of green building assessment, mainly introduces the《Assessment Handbook for Ecological Residential Building in China》and Assessment System for Green Building of Beijing Olympic, and through the comparison of various systems analysis, establishes the basic assess index of green building. The AHP (Analytic Hierarchy Process) method has been applied to assess the weighting of public buildings and residential buildings in China based on GBTool2005 assessment system. The aim of this paper is to supply reference information to the building energy efficiency policymakers in China.
