Since the opening up and reform, the process of urbanization and mobilization is developing at a high speed in China, leading to an expansion of traffic demand. In consequence, urban transportation problems have brought negative impact to China's social and ecomonic development and the improvement of people's living standard.Traffic Impact Analysis known as TIA mainly forecasts the quantitative influence to surrounding road network and evaluates the qualitative influence to traffic safety and environment. On the basis above, it will carry out improvement measures in order to minimize the negative influence, maintain a reasonable level of service for surrounding road network and avoid over development of the site. TIA is an effective microcosmic way to balance the internal relationship between urban land use and urban transportation system and mitigate the urban transportation problems. This thesis makes profound study on several issues of TIA in order to provide instructive guidance to further study in China, function as a helpful reference to the establishment of official guideline of TIA with Chinese characteristics. This thesis summarizes the theoretical study and practical application of TIA in and outside China and analyses the deficiency of China's TIA.This thesis carries out the common content and procedure of TIA for China and makes a study on individual content of TIA for various kinds of site developments. This thesis summarizes and analyses the TIA threshold study in developed countries and brings forward the methodology of establishment of TIA threshold in China. This thesis explains the theory and methodology of forecasting traffic demand in TIA and analyses the adaptability of each methodology.
