Research On Compatibility Of TLA Modified Asphalt

As TLA modified asphalt was widely applied in road engineering in recent years, the evaluation and design technologies of TLA modified asphalt were paid more and more attention by road builders. Combining practical application of TLA modified asphalt in our country, compatibility of TLA modified asphalt was researched. Through choice of different types of base asphalt and different content of TLA, related experiments were carried out, and then performances of TLA modified asphalt were analyzed and compared. Compatibility of TLA modified asphalt was discussed, which provided the basis for reasonable application of TLA modified asphalt.(1) Combined with the results of conventional tests and SHRP tests, performances of different content of TLA modified asphalt were analyzed respectively, which were mixed with base asphalts of Esso, Shell, Tipco, Futeng and Zhonghai. The results show that performances of TLA modified asphalt were basically improved, as content of TLA was increased. In 20% to 40% content of TLA, equivalent breaking point of TLA modified asphalt was increased gently, and ductility was decreased slowly. It showed that low temperature anti-cracking was better in the content. So it is proposed that content of TLA is from 20% to 40%, when performances of TLA modified asphalt were better and economic.(2) Combining charts and regression equations, in the recommended content of TLA, performance indexes of different TLA modified asphalt were compared under the same content. The approximate compositor of performances was discussed. In the content, the best compatibility combination of TLA modified asphalt was found. High temperature stability and low temperature anti-cracking of TLA modified asphalt were mainly discussed, and other performances were compared synthetically. When content of TLA was 20% to 40%, compatibility of Tipco base asphalt with TLA was the best, followed by Futeng, Shell; Esso and Zhonghai were in the back, and performances of their TLA modified asphalt were close. The influences of base asphalt performances to TLA modified asphalt performances were discussed, by discussing high temperature stability, low temperature anti-cracking, anti-deformation, anti-aging, temperature and anti-rutting performance. It got that the base asphalt performances decided TLA modified asphalt performances in the recommended content.(3) Infrared spectra analysis indicated that high temperature stability and low temperature anti-cracking performance of base asphalt were better, the number of benzene-hydrogen was more; while high temperature and low temperature anti-cracking performance was poor, the number of benzene-hydrogen was less. It showed that there was a certain relation between the high stability and low temperature anti-cracking performance of base asphalt and the number of benzene-hydrogen. TG-DSC analysis showed that test results of thermal analysis and high temperature conventional test of asphalt maintained a good correlation, and they could verify each other, could be used to analyze performances of asphalt more effectively, at the same time it proved that judging high temperature performance of asphalt with equivalent softening point was more credibility.
