The indexing cam mechanisms are more suitable to the work conditions where high speed and accurate output precision are needed, and have been widely used in all kinds of multi-steps machines, linear intermittent machines due to their advantages of simple structure, automatic positioning compared with other intermittent mechanisms. However, existing indexing cam mechanisms can't meet the requirements of the fast development of automatic machines.In this paper, a new transmission form of indexing cam mechanism with combination principle is presented. The new mechanism has characteristics of high speed, high indexing precision as well as the indexing cam used in practice. It also can perform from one to a great number in indexing with compact structure.Firstly,two different types of the new mechanism are put forward, and according to the eccentric type, the characteristics of the mechanism are also presented. The equations of the cam's contour are derived based on the forming principle of conjugate tooth contour.Secondly, structure and design parameters are analyzed systematically based on investigation of pressure angle and curvature radius to the new mechanism.Thirdly, the kinetostatics of the mechanism is studied. The method that confirms the acceleration of the follower is analyzed. The acting forces between the follower and the others are calculated. The balance analysis of the configuration is also discussed.Finally, the three-dimensional building for the mechanism general solid and the motion simulation are newly studied using Pro/E software. The performance of the simulation intuitively indicates the new mechanism is feasible.
