This paper based on demology, sociology, the elderly physiology and psychology, landscape design and other related theory knowledge.The paper drew the conclusion about the design principle and methods for the environment construction of the elderly community through studied literature, analyzed examples, and other methods, which can creat a better environment with improved facilities and rich spiritual life, enhance the life quality, satisfy the elders'requirement."The passive retirement"will be changed as"the initiative retirement", enhancing the old self-confidently, supporting oneself, striving to improve life style, making the old enjoy the technology progress and positive, healthy and joyful life.This paper based on the examples of community construction at home and abroad and related documentation, according to the elderly mental, physical and social characteristics, with China's current social, economic, cultural, environmental and other special situations, summed up the elderly community's environmental type, which is communication, fitness, watching and perception, come to the pricinple for the elderly community construction, that is compensation, safety, comfort, identify, ecology. According to these principles, the elderly community environment and made designs of main points from green system, road system and environmental facilities and community culture. Through the various elements of the analysis and study, to the elderly community outdoor environmental design methods and principles.The environment construction of the elderly community was a long-term, continuous, it will be changed with the social environment. Different social environment along with the old will have different characteristics. The conclusion of this paper afford a guide for the environment construction of the elderly community at this stage, but it was just a preliminary exploration.
