With adjustment of national industrial structure, enhancement of city's economic strength, and advance of living environment requirement, the city renewal and renovation have been made in China. City waterfront space plays an important role in some aspects: (1) improvement of city ecological environment; (2) promoting sustainable development of city economy; (3) harmonious coexistence between human and nature. Based on the situation of the Guiyang city and the development of human society, we discuss how to renew and renovate the city waterfront space. After revival and rebirth of the primary waterfront space, it would become the new type waterfront space which exhibits the features of city and satisfies the need of city integrated development.In this thesis, the conception of the waterfront space is defined, and the goal and significance of renewal and renovation of city waterfront space are addressed. The three processing phases in city waterfront space development are summarized. The successful experience of renewal and renovation of the city waterfront space in some cities is introduced, and the four factors which affect the city development are proposed. Based on the integrated renovation sample of the Nanming River in the Guiyang city, we analyze the station and function of the Nanming River in history. The space form, city important node, municipal establishment, and processing of decision and management in city programming and construction are discussed. We also summarize the experience and problem in the practice, and propose three main countermeasures for renewal and renovation of the Nanming River and its waterfront space in programming and design, policy management, and economy of the Guiyang city. The systematization construction must be realized in renewal of waterfront space in the Guiyang city, and the effect of digital and informational age change is discussed at the last chapter.
