Reverse Engineering is one of the methods for digital product development. It shortens exploitation period, improves precision and is an important way to create and develope a new product by digesting and absorbing advanced technologies.Presently, there are two aspects in research of RE: one is system integration, which includes the integration of all taches of RE and the exploitation of common software; the other one is research on the pivotal technology of RE, which includes data acquiring, data dealing and model reconstruction. Data acquiring is the basis of RE; Data dealing, which is the crucial tache of RE, will affect the result of model reconstruction; Model reconstruction is the ending. On account of that, this thesis will focus on data dealing and model reconstruction.This paper mainly applied the Reverse Engineering technologies to the motorboat engine's component which has complicated shape. By three-dimensional data measuring and data dealing, we could finally get the product CAD model. Firstly, the method of data acquiring is expounded. The different point clouds are compared. Scattered point cloud is investigated in this thesis. Secondly, the crucial technologies are analyzed, such as founding the relationship of scattered point, aligning at the multi-angled point clouds, wiping off the bad points of scattered points, reduction of the cross-section line data point clouds. Then the paper detailedly introduces the application of the software Imageware to finishing the reconstructions of the motorboat engine's component. The paper also analyzes some problems of the application of Imageware. At last, through calculating some parts the paper designed the mold of the motorboat engine's component. The creative points of this thesis is as follows: Octree is used to speed up searching neighborhood of points and through this method wiping off the bad points of scattered point clouds; a kind of data reduction method about cross-section line points is presented; a program can input, rotate, magnify and dwindle the data of point clouds.
