In persistent in the premises of"full treasuring and proper utilization of land as well as securing protecting of plantation"that as the basic national policy, Wuhan government should pay close attention to the basic national condition of disproportion between large amount of population and lack of infield in the process of disposal of urban construction land in accordance with the principle of protecting plantation, restraining increment of land usage in a limited manner and ensuring beneficial land development (i.e. two limits and one guarantee), in other words, scale of land for construction should be determined in terms of outcome of scientific forecast and analysis so as to ensure sustainable development of Wuhan city.It's limited potential to dispose construction land in central city zone of Wuhan city, and in the same time, it's a quite heavy task for Wuhanese to reconstruct the old urban area. It can be said that sustainable development of Wuhan city rests solely with the methodology with which existing urban land is utilized. Alternatively, the development of a city is a spiral procedure that consists of origination, development, declination and re-development, and reconstruction of old city area and expansion of new city area supplement each other and run through overall stage of urban development. Therefore, the policy of priority for land preservation during the course of land disposal and distribution should be implemented consistently.Due to hundreds of years of unique historical evolution and as that of other large scale cities, land structure of purpose and space distribution of Wuhan city became unreasonable gradually, and consequently land deployment for old city area is featured with low efficiency as well as degraded concentration. As to utilization of land in old city area, it's evidently characterized as disordered overall arrangement and miscellaneous functions. Therefore, various modes of space conformation and architectural mechanism are emerged on the one hand and difficulty for reconstruction and renewal of old city area is increased on the other hand.The author intends to study in this text with matters in relation to the approaches of selecting land in old city area to remove and reconstruct, implementing quantity and orientation analysis with existing construction land in old city area, making conclusion on laws and characteristics of construction land in old city area of Wuhan city, finding problems and putting forth reasonable countermeasures for city planning as well as adjusting land usage structure of old city area in light of market law and with no impairing basic interests of residents of old city area. Due to the complexity of problems and prominence of conflict of interest that are involved in the whole process of reconstruction of old city area, it's hard for us to make ultimate and objective settlement, and still, we'd have to deal with and resolve any problem arising during the whole process of studying with the pragmatic idea of flexible, dynamic and initiatively implementation. The author wishes his work making a commencement for improved reconstruction of old city area of Wuhan city as well as a reference for reconstruction of other city areas, and more importantly, a conducive exploration of study method for construction land reserve of old city zone by means of this study process.
