With the rapid development of the national economy and the growing scale of the power grid, in order to ensure the gird to operate safely, economically and reliably, more and higher abilities of the power grid dispatching automation system are required.At present, the scale of power grid is constantly expanded. The old substation is extended. The number of new substation is greatly increased. These plants information are all needed to send into the power grid dispatching automation system, however, compared with the traditional remote terminal unit, the amount of these information are greatly increased. The requirements of system function are more, stronger and more comprehensive. Then the current area power grid dispatch automation system will unable to meet the requirements of rapidly receiving, processing, analyzing and storing so much power grid information. The expansion and improvement of the system is very inevitable.In this thesis, the development status and trends of the power grid dispatch automation system are introduced. The SCADA, PAS function of energy management system (EMS) are analyzed. Then, the functional requirements of power grid automation system are emphatically analyzed, and the system function is extended based on the original IES500 system. Firstly, the system architecture is improved from the original C/S model to the model mixed by C/S and B/S. Secondly, a personal communication system is added, which has short message and voice alarm function. These functions can ensure that the relevant people could obtain the grid information promptly and make rapid judgment and processing to the failure. Finally, an automatic voltage control system is added, which can make full use of the abundant information provided by SCADA system and the advanced computer and communication technology to adjust the shunt compensation equipment and taps of transformer of grid automatically. Then, the grid can operate safely and economically radically.
