The power system automation is technical base for securing safe, reliable, high-quality and economic operation of power grid, and is a reliable guarantee for constructing a strong power grid. The power system automation composed by integrated substation automation and dispatching automation.Integrated substation automation system is a comprehensive automation system which applies advanced computer technology, modern electronic technology, communication technology and information processing technology to reassemble and design optimization two functions of the substation device, and to operate execution monitoring, measuring, control and coordination of all the substation equipment.Dispatching automation system is a integrated system which applies the computer, remote control, communication technology to realize the automation of electric power systems function, and it's mainly composed by power system control and data acquisition (SCADA), automatic generation control (AGC), energy management system (EMS), power application software (PAS), dispatching training simulator (DTS), voltage and reactive power optimization (AVC).The thesis aims to investigating reasons for some faults, defects or exceptions in operation of power automatic systems based on some practical and representative cases had been dealt with by author, and provides some solutions and measures to these problems. The automation systems in this thesis cover integrated substation automation system and power gird dispatching automation system, and the latter include OPEN-2000 SCADA/AGC/EMS system and automatic voltage control system (AVC). Some common problems in operation of these systems have been proposed in ending of the thesis.
