The DC motor of the rolling steel production line is supplied by the thyristor- rectifier, so the cold rolling mill is a typical harmonic source. Harmonics are produced and a lot of reactive power is consumed when it is working, it results in the heavy pollution of power system. Many kinds of reactive power compensation and harmonic filtering methods are contrasted in the paper. A method of Static Var Generator and FC are used in the rolling steel production line of the btsteel, the model is designed with appropriate control strategy and simulated. The results proved the efficiency of the method. The power factor is improved and the harmonics is limited under the national standard.
