With train speed been constantly raising on existing main line and the construction of dedicated passenger line, it is urgent to develop high performance train control system to guarantee train operation safety and efficiency. According to the demand on the development of Chinese railways, the Ministry of Railways brings forward Chinese Train Control System(CTCS). Nowadays, CTCS-2 has been adopted to upgrade the existing main lines, and the CTCS-3 technical specifications and key techniques applicable for dedicated passenger line are under research. Building of the CTCS-3 simulation and testing platform can provide an experiment environment for system design, system integration and the test of key components. CTC extension simulation subsystem is one important part of the platform, it will be simulated by computer in the laboratory environment,and connected to other equipments by the Ethernet.Considering the complexity of the simulation system, this paper employs Unified Modeling Language(UML) and Rational Unified Process(RUP) to model and guide software development. The RUP divides the development of simulation software into four phases.RUP will dierct us to model using UML and develope the software more effectively in each phase.This method can make the sofeware of the simulation system easy to be understood, expanded and maintained.Firstly ,this paper introduces the structural division,the main functions and the interfaces with external subsystems of CTC extension simulation subsystem in CTCS-3 simulation and testing platform.It also introduces Unified Modeling Language and Rational Unified Process,and proposed a combination of both for the modeling and development of the simulation system. On this basis,this paper analyzes and designs CTC extension simulation subsystem based on UML,and builds the static model, dynamic model and physical model of it, such as Use Case Diagram, Class Diagram, Sequence Diagram, Collaboration Diagram, Activity Diagram ,Statechart Diagram, Component Diagram and Deployment Diagram.Then following the methods and steps of RUP, this paper achieves the main function of CTC extension simulation subsystem. The major achievements of this paper include establishing and improving the model of station layout, establishing and improving the interface to make it more friendly, realizing the communication with other simulation subsystems which makes the system can receive and send various communication data normally, achieving the autonomous module which makes the system can process route automatically according to train running schedule , achieving the manual module which makes the system can process route manually, realizing tain number tracing at the station to provide the necessary support for the logic module and so on. By debugging together with other simulation subsytems, the function of CTC extension simulation subsystem is perfected and validated, which has achieved the design objectives.
