Liazhou marshalling station is located at the middle of the Yingtan-Xiamen railway line, and the intersection of Waiyan-Fuzhouand and Yintan-Xiamen lines with Wangfu and Waiyan as its upstream and downstream staions, respectively. Because of the high, transport ation load, its capacity has been recognized as critical.Based on the survey of the transportation situation and current capacity of Laizhou marshalling station, the existing problems were identified in this thesis, such as to many in-process trains, insufficient sorting lines,insufficient effective length for train assembly,and capacity limitation at hump rear.These problems have significantly influenced the transportation,safety,and efficiency of the marshalling yard.This thesis is aimed at providing solutions for these problems.The major work of this study includes:(1)After the analysis of the influencing factors of the capabilities of the service queueing system at the Laizhou marshalling station,capacity criteria were calculated,such as the carrying capacity at arrival and departure yards,hump break-up capacity,rear assembly capacity,and the carrying capacity of the whole station.(2)The traffic flow organization at the Laizhou marshalling station was analyzed.Some problems were identified. Then, some possible solutions were proposed: to reduce the aggregation of train flow at the station, to change the methods for the jobs of special trains; to improve the appraising and recognition program,and to reduce the ratio of the trains without resorting.(3)Based on a discussion on the advantages of different layouts,the problems associated with the current yard layout for the Laizhou marshalling station are discussed.The rear and hump capacities are analyzed. Some measures to improve these capacities are presented.All these proposed solutions are expected to be able to improve the safety, efficiency, and capacity of the Laizhou marshalling station.
